Contents investigation

Archthetic is currently co-operating with the one of the leading industries of digital data recovery & forensics. Due to the growth of smartphones, it’s opened new opportunities for us to come up with the simplest solutions of data recovery in order to minimize the complexity of digital forensic and recovering the deleted data & contents.

These solutions were developed as means of providing consumers with a lower cost, more secure and reducing complex process of digital forensics and recovering deleted & hidden data.

Topics

Why contents investigation important :

The contents forensic investigation takes place when data on the smartphone & PC are crucial to a case.

Even a small piece of information, like a single text message, could help investigators solve a case. Other times, it’s a more complicated picture painted by deleted call logs, time stamps and app usage.

Search history is also considered as a crucial information. Many types of information could help the law enforcement solve a crime—and phones store a lot of that kind of information.

How Forensic Analysts perform contents forensic investigations :

Forensic analysts can perform four different kinds of data acquisitions manual acquisition,  logical acquisition, file system acquisition and physical acquisition.

All techniques have performed differently in recovering the deleted & hidden data.

Manual Acquisition – Simple method by searching through the phone normally. This doesn’t reveal deleted data, so it doesn’t tell analysts much.

Logical Acquisition – Focus more on details of recovering deleted & hidden data. This involves transferring data from the phone to a PC. This method allows forensic investigators to work with the data but is still unlikely to recover deleted information easily.

File system acquisition – When investigators want to open the hidden data, mobile devices are big databases, and a file system acquisition gives an investigator access to all of the files in the database. This includes hidden and root files, but still no deleted data.

Physical acquisition – This is the hardest method of acquisition, as it needs special tools to dump a copy of the storage into a file. This method allows procedures such as forensic text message recovery to take place.
